:twilight zone:

Only one track for this album, a single straight path into fragmented hallucinational perceptions. Minimal ambient electronic music here, built experimenting on different metamorphic sounds transmissions. With this second work Martin Steinebach is able to give to the listener a new perceptive tool which will allow to catch and perceive various disturbing frequencies. This work will bring you into a dimension of different radiations and decoded vocals full of obsessive visions marked by echoes and cluttering metal sounds. Minimal sounds emissions coming from distant planetary wombs, metallic and grey, plaintive sounds that reach you as feeble radio waves. Lost in a subliminal world following the frequencies of a new Stalker?

Before these two releases entered my mailbox, German label Tosom was an unknown territory to me. Nevertheless does everything around these albums seem quite interesting. The CDs come in a minimal overall black cover-design with an old gothic looking photography centred at the front. Musically the albums first of all point towards the Industrial-oriented Dark Ambient scene not far away from the style of Swedish label Cold Meat Industry. German composer Martin Steinebach is the brain behind both CD-projects resulting in some musical similarity as regards the gloomy approach to Ambient. Still there is quite some difference between the two projects. Under the name Stillstand, Steinebach^Òs work represents the quintessence of classic Dark Ambient music. Atmospheric black soundscapes are permeated by masses of found sounds and processed human voices. Stillstand^Òs ^ÓPeace (is the end of all media transmissions)^Ô, which by the way is a 52 minutes long one-track album, nicely blends brutality and beauty into a whole. Also the Chaos/Magick-album by Conscientia Peccati consists of one lenghty track. Under the Conscientia Peccati-project, Martin Steinebach works in a more tribal ambient-style with discreet rhythm-textures giving a sort of ritual atmosphere. Generally the Conscientia Peccati-album represents a more obscure kind of Ritual Industrial-sound compared to the more classic Dark Ambient oriented style of Stillstand. Nevertheless, two very interesting releases by Martin Steinebach and German label Tosom.

Alles erinnert ein wenig an Coils „How To Destroy Angels“ – ein dunkles Prachtstück.

This release really caught my eye when I first spotted it in my review pile. The title is the first thing that attracted me, as it's a sentiment I can agree with. Visually the album art is completely black with a simple old photograph in the middle. Having never heard anything from either StillStand or label tosom I wasn't sure what to expect but was definitely intrigued. Peace (Is The End Of All Media Transmissions) is a single 52 minute track of dark ambient soundscapes. Distorted voices, long echoed drones, and pulsing frequencies lead the listener on a journey through the deluge of media-filled noise that is modern life. Throughout the length of the track the sounds shift from quite dense layers of overwhelming noise to verry minialist ambient segments. I've often found that attempts at single track releases leave me bored part way through but that isn't the case for this release. The range of dynamics and skillful composition keeps me engaged for the whole journey. At various points I find myself drifting into a meditative state before coming back to focus on absorbing the sounds in a more active way. StillStand has managed to produce a really high standard dark ambient release that can stand alongside any of the best from labels such as Cold Meat Industry. I highly recommend this album to any fan of dark ambient and soundscape orientated music. You will not be disappointed. With this release being limited to 122 copies you'd better get in quick before the rush.
